BIOGRAPHY

BRUNO FIGUEROA CONSUL GENERAL OF MEXICO SAN JOSE, CA. Born in Mexico City, October 24, 1965. Consul Figueroa has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1987, and holds the rank of Minister. He was appointed by President Vicente Fox as Consul General of Mexico in San Jose, where he took office on February 20th, 2004. During his previous assignment (2001 + beginning of 2004), he acted as Policy Planning Advisor to the Mexican Secretary of State. Between 1998 and 2001, Consul Figueroa was Deputy Head of Mission at the Mexican Embassy in Austria, and Deputy Representative to international organizations based in Vienna, including the Atomic Agency. From 1993 to 1997 he worked as Press Attaché at the Mexican Embassy in France, and he was previously advisor to the Undersecretary of State for North America.

Consul General Figueroa has a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México and a Master's degree from the National School of Public Administration of France (ENA). He also has diplomas from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the International Law Academy of The Hague. He has lectured and given conferences at several universities, and is the author of several articles regarding international affairs. He is fluent in English, French and German.

He is married to Veronica Gonzalez and has two daughters, Aura (nine years old), and Paloma (four). He first came to the Bay Area in the summer of 1993 for his honeymoon. He enjoys the traditions and cultures of Mexico and other countries, and above all being in close personal contact with people and their communities.
