Phil Trounstine The California Presidential Primaries - Who's Ahead Who's Not To find out the answer to these questions as well as other issues pertaining to public opinion, local and statewide, please join us on Thursday, April 19, when Phil Trounstine is our Lunch with League guest speaker. Mr. Trounstine is founder and director of the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University whose clients have included the San Jose-Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, Santa Clara County Central Labor Council, American Cancer Society, and the San Jose Mercury News. He also founded and produces the quarterly California Consumer Confidence Survey. He was a general assignment and statehouse reporter for the Indianapolis Star from 1975-78 and was a reporter, editorial writer and political editor for the San Jose Mercury News from 1978-98, covering local, state and national politics. From January 1999 through June 2001, he served as communications director for Governor Davis, responsible for the governor's press office, speeches, public appearances and the public affairs for 13 state agencies and 60 departments. In October 2001, he joined San Jose State University, where he organized and directs the Survey and Policy Research Institute. Trounstine has won numerous regional and statewide reporting awards and was a lead writer for the Mercury News coverage of the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in journalism.
