3-in-1 League membership defends democracy

Becoming a member of the League of Women Voters San Jose/Santa Clara comes with two significant added benefits: you are also automatically a member of LWV California and LWVUS. Each level of League -- local, state, national -- has a role in fulfilling our mission of empowering voters and defending democracy. And each level is very busy making that happen.

It can be difficult to get your arms around all the League is doing and the impact it is having. The focus in our VOTER newsletter is on local activities, but we try to include updates on state and national League news such as these:

STATE LEAGUE

Dora Rose, Deputy Director and Chief Lobbyist for LWV of California was the featured speaker at the Feb. 19 Lunch with League, and her talk was packed with information about the state League's major democracy fights heading into 2026 -- both the defensive work to protect voting rights and the proactive reforms designed to strengthen representation and participation. Click HERE to read the summary notes of her presentation. Impressive!

NATIONAL LEAGUE

One way to become more familiar with what the League is doing at the national level is to read through postings on its blog. New posts from LWVUS staff members and guest contributors are added several times a month and cover a wide range of topics. You can also check out the LWVUS Newsroom for press releases on litigation, major League announcements, and commentary on fast-breaking news.

I encourage you to take some time in March (Women's History Month) to browse through the LWV state and national websites and to sign up to receive their newsletters and action alerts. I think it will make you proud that you are a triple member of the League of Women Voters and all that it stands for. Join today!!
